## Tag a symbol with $

Chat answers questions about stocks, ETFs and crypto. Name one with a `$` tag.

1. **Type $ and a letter**

Start a word with it, or click the **$** button on the composer and then type a letter. A **Symbols** list opens and narrows as you type. Each row shows the ticker, the name and its kind, such as **Stock**, **ETF**, **ADR** or **Crypto**.

2. **Pick a row**

Use the arrow keys and Enter, or click it. The draft gets the ticker, for example `$NVDA`, and a chip for it appears on the composer.

3. **Send the message**

The chip travels with it. To drop a chip before you send, click its **✕**.

A tag counts only when you pick it from the list: `$FOO` typed and sent without picking stays plain text. A dollar amount such as `$50` never opens the list. One message carries up to 12 tags.

A tag tells Chat which instrument you mean, not what to do, so pair it with a question.

## Prices, history and cited answers

Ask for a stock or ETF price and Chat reads its last trade. The answer carries a citation with the time of the read.

Ask how a symbol has traded and Chat reads its bars: intraday sizes such as 5 minutes or 1 hour, or daily, weekly or monthly. Daily is the default. The reply shows the most recent 20 bars as a data card.

A large card followed by more of the answer folds to one line naming the source, such as **IREN · bars**, its shape, such as **1 row × 12 cols**, and when its data is from. **Show** and **Hide** fold the rows, and **Open ▸** opens them in a side panel; the docked chat has no **Open ▸**. Figures in the prose carry citation numbers that point back to the card.

When a read returns nothing, Chat says so. A missing price is reported as no data, never as zero.

**Audit** on a reply opens a panel whose **Sources** lists every source the reply read. See [What Chat can read](https://orbitalaip.com/docs/chat/overview#what-chat-can-read).

When the Watchlists app is on in your project, Chat also reads your watchlists and symbol notes. See [Watchlists in Chat](https://orbitalaip.com/docs/watchlists/overview#watchlists-in-chat).

## Screen the market

Describe conditions in plain words and Chat runs a screen. "Stocks up more than 10% today with market cap above $2B" and "top premarket movers" are both screens. The reply shows a card such as **Screened the market · 1 screen · 20 rows**.

Chat matches your words to the screener's fields: price and volume, valuation, growth, balance sheet, performance and more. Valuation, growth, balance-sheet and performance fields come from daily updates, not the live tape.

The screen covers exchange-listed US stocks: common shares and ADRs by default. Ask to include ETFs, closed-end funds, preferred shares, warrants, rights and units, or structured products, and the answer states the wider universe.

The answer gives the counts: rows returned, rows matched and symbols left out for missing data. An empty result is an answer. Chat does not loosen a condition to force rows.

To keep a screen as a live widget, click **Screened the market**, then **Open full results**: **Pin as widget →** under the table proposes a widget you **Apply**. See [Pin a chart from Chat](https://orbitalaip.com/docs/dashboards/widgets#pin-a-chart-from-chat).

## Charts in the thread

Ask Chat to show, plot or graph something and it draws a chart inline with a dashboard widget type, such as **Line Chart** or **Bar Chart**. Widgets that stream their own feed, such as **Live Price**, are not drawn in the thread. The chart is marked **displayed, not saved**: nothing is written to a dashboard.

A chart holds at most 100 points. When the source offers time ranges, range buttons above the chart redraw it. A line needs at least 8 points to show a shape. With fewer, Chat states the values in the answer instead, or draws a bar chart. If a chart fails to draw, the block reads **Chart render error** with a **Retry** button.

**Pin to dashboard →** under a chart proposes a widget you **Apply**. See [Pin a chart from Chat](https://orbitalaip.com/docs/dashboards/widgets#pin-a-chart-from-chat).

## Slash commands

1. **Open the list**

Type `/` at the start of a word, or click the **/** button on the composer (**Insert a command**). The **Commands** list opens.

2. **Pick a command**

Use the arrow keys and Enter, or click it. Its opening words replace the `/` in your draft.

3. **Finish the sentence and send**

A command never runs anything by itself.

- **/dashboard** (**Propose a dashboard**) inserts “Propose a dashboard for”, and **/workflow** (**Propose a workflow**) inserts “Propose a workflow that”. A proposal card follows, and nothing is created or runs until you approve it.

- **/chart** (**Chart something**) inserts “Show me a chart of”. Chat answers with a chart in the thread.

## Web search

Where web search is available, Chat searches the web when a question needs it, and a reply that searched shows **Searched the web**. See [Search the web](https://orbitalaip.com/docs/chat/documents-and-web#search-the-web).
