## What it does

Lists the strategies in the project you connected, with the latest backtest of each. Claude uses it to turn a strategy name into an id, or to show you what the project holds. For one strategy's versions and runs it uses [get_strategy](https://orbitalaip.com/docs/claude-and-chatgpt/tools/get_strategy).

It takes no arguments and returns up to 50 strategies, most recently updated first. Each row carries the strategy's id, name, lifecycle status and workflow id, its newest version, and its latest run with the period, return, alpha, maximum drawdown and Sharpe ratio. The Sharpe travels with its deflation: the number of configurations tried and the [deflated figure](https://orbitalaip.com/docs/glossary#deflated-sharpe-ratio), so a searched-for result is never quoted bare.

When the project has no strategies yet, the result says so and points Claude to [get_authoring_guide](https://orbitalaip.com/docs/claude-and-chatgpt/tools/get_authoring_guide) and then [create_strategy](https://orbitalaip.com/docs/claude-and-chatgpt/tools/create_strategy).

It needs the read permission, which every connection has. Every project role may call it, a viewer included.

One caveat: a strategy whose workflow is in Orbital's trash is not listed. Restore it in Orbital to see it here again.

## What comes back

- `strategies`: up to 50 rows, most recently updated first. Each has `id`, `name`, `status` (`draft`, `tested`, `paper` or `retired`), `workflowId`, `workflowType`, `version` and `latestRun`.

- `version`: the strategy's newest version: `versionNumber`, `changeNote`, `configHash`, its parent, the trial counts, `configurationCount`, `strategyArm` and `periodBound`. Null for a strategy that has never run.

- `latestRun`: `id`, `status`, `period`, `returnPct`, `alphaPct`, `maxDrawdownPct`, `sharpe`, `deflation` and `costProfile`. Null when the strategy has no run.

- `deflation`: `available`, `observedSharpe` and `configurationCount`, with `expectedMaxSharpe`, `deflatedSharpe` and `trialSharpeCount` when available, or a `reason` when not.

- `note`: present only when the project holds no strategies. It reads "No strategies in this project yet — call get_authoring_guide, then create_strategy."

- `disclaimer`: the backtest disclaimer, word for word.

## Try saying

- "Show my strategies and the verdict of the latest backtest of each."
- "Which of my strategies has the best Sharpe, and how many configurations were tried to get it?"
- "Find the strategy called Momentum ten and give me its id."

## If it fails

- **Backtesting is not active in this project — turn it on under Settings → Apps in Orbital, then try again** — The Backtesting app is off in the project you connected. In Orbital open Settings, then Apps, and turn Backtesting on for the project you connected. Then ask Claude to try again.
