Orbital AI · MCP connector

Build and backtest strategies from your AI assistant.

Connect Orbital once, then describe a strategy in plain English. Your assistant builds it with Orbital’s tools, tests it on Orbital’s engine and saves it to your project.

Add to Claude

Creates and backtests strategies in one project you approve. Trading stays in Orbital.

Works on every Claude plan; Free allows one custom connector. Needs an Orbital account.

Connect once. Then just ask.

Orbital AI is a remote MCP server. Add it to Claude, approve one project, and Claude can use eleven Orbital tools in any conversation where you switch it on.

How it connects

  1. In Claude

    Add Orbital AI to Claude

Open Add to Claude, or go to Customize → Connectors → + Add → Add custom connector and paste the address.

  2. In Orbital

    Approve one project

Orbital asks which workspace and project Claude may use. Claude reaches nothing else in your workspace.

  3. In Claude

    Ask

Switch Orbital AI on in a chat and describe what you want to test.

What you can ask

Talk it through. Orbital does the math.

01 Build

From a sentence to a strategy.

Claude reads Orbital’s authoring guide, then saves your idea as rules you can open and edit in Orbital: a universe, an indicator, an entry, an exit, a size.

Buy SPY when it closes above its 50-day average; sell when it closes below.

02 Test

A verdict you can check.

Return, drawdown, trades — and the Sharpe with how many configurations were tried to find it. Claude reads the same result you see in Orbital, caveats included.

Caveats in the verdict

  • Static universe — survivorship not modeled
  • Paper simulates no borrow fees

03 Iterate

Refine it in the same chat.

Ask for a change; Claude saves it as a new version and runs it again. Both versions stay in Orbital, side by side.

Add an 8% stop and run it again.

Eleven tools. None that trade.

Claude picks the tool; every call shows in the conversation.

Read 6 tools

Look things up. Nothing in your project changes.

  • Strategy authoring guide

    get_authoring_guide

Reads Orbital’s strategy vocabulary: the rule cards, or the Program manual for Rust.

  • List strategies

    list_strategies

Lists the project’s strategies, each with its latest result.

  • Get strategy

    get_strategy

Reads one strategy: its rules, versions and recent runs.

  • Estimate backtest

    estimate_backtest

Compiles the strategy, sizes the run and checks data coverage, without starting anything.

  • Get backtest

    get_backtest

Reads a run: its progress while it runs, and the verdict when it’s done.

  • Get backtest trades

    get_backtest_trades

Reads a run’s trade log, up to 150 rows a page.

Write 3 tools

Create and edit strategies. Nothing is deleted.

  • Create strategy

    create_strategy

Saves a new strategy in the connected project.

  • Update strategy

    update_strategy

Saves a new version of a strategy and keeps every earlier one.

  • Build program

    build_program

Compiles a Program node’s Rust source and returns the compiler’s messages.

Run 1 tool

The one tool that starts a backtest.

  • Run backtest

    run_backtest

Starts a backtest on Orbital’s engine; daily runs usually finish in seconds, intraday runs in minutes.

Cancel 1 tool

The one tool marked destructive.

  • Cancel backtest

    cancel_backtest

Stops a queued or running backtest; a cancelled run can’t be resumed.

Trade 0 tools

Not part of the connection.

This connector creates and backtests strategies. It cannot place trades. Trading stays inside Orbital, behind your approval.

You stay in control

  • One project

Claude sees only the project you approve, nothing else in Orbital.

  • No trading

No tool places an order or deploys a strategy.

  • On the record

Everything Claude makes is an ordinary strategy in your project.

  • Yours to end

Remove the connector in Claude, or revoke it in Orbital, and the connection stops.

No, never. The connection has no tool that places an order, deploys a strategy or reaches Trade. Deploying to paper trading stays inside Orbital, behind your approval.

Exactly one: the project you choose on the Connect to Orbital page. Claude sees that project’s strategies and backtests — versions, runs, results and trade logs — and nothing else: no other project or workspace, and no positions, accounts or other apps. To use another project, connect again.

Only what a tool call carries — the rules, program source or backtest settings Claude sends — and the strategies, versions and runs those calls create. The rest of the conversation never reaches Orbital.

Into Backtesting in the connected project, as ordinary strategies you can open, edit and run yourself. Each change Claude makes is saved as a new version.

ChatGPT and Grok are coming soon; we’ll post on the blog when each ships. Claude and Claude Code connect today.

No. Orbital computes the rules you supplied on historical data and recommends nothing, and every result says it is hypothetical.

Remove the Orbital AI connector in Claude, under Customize → Connectors, and the connection stops. You can also revoke it in Orbital, under Settings → Plugins → AI assistants. In Claude Code, run claude mcp logout orbital-ai, then claude mcp remove orbital-ai.

Bring Orbital into Claude.

Orbital is in open beta. Connect Claude to a project and build your first strategy on real market data.

Backtest results are hypothetical and do not predict future performance. Nothing here is investment advice: Orbital computes the rules you supplied and recommends nothing. Orbital is not a registered investment adviser or broker-dealer. Costs are as modelled by the chosen cost profile and may differ from live trading.
